There are a couple of Woody's loose on the peninsula (actually, probably more than a couple, truth be told)...don't get confused! This Woody's isn't named after a local fisherman who decided that selling hooch was easier than fishing...this Woody's is named after Woodie station wagons (so I guess Woody's would be Woodie's if everything in the world made sense). And this Woody's doesn't claim to have sold drinks to Humphrey Bogart a decade after Humphrey died, like the other Woody's (although that does make a good story). No, this Woody's is an outpost of a local chain of a midscale diners...breakfast, lunch and dinner in a pleasant setting, served by pleasant people. Located next to the Lido Movie house on Via Lido, they always seem to be busy...I guess people just like Woody's The food is typical small chain restaurant fare (but then again, Woody's doesn't try to bill itself as anything that it's not...when you walk in, you know exactly what type of meal you are going to get) and they do just fine. The Beautiful Carin and I grabbed breakfast at Woody's the other morning after a foray to Newport Beach FM (doesn't that give you a vision...two fistfuls of sausage and eggs, yolks dripping from each hand...like something from an episode of the The Tudor's...or Charlie Sheen's normal morning routine). And a perfectly fine breakfast, at that. While Woody's isn't a destination eating experience for us, it isn't bad, either...nice for a little breakfast or a piece of pie and a cup of coffee after a movie! This Woody's is a solid 3.5 stars...sadly, I still don't round up!

I had a pretty decent experience here, no problem with the service and the food was good. Came here with a group of friends one morning after a night out, we were all kinda hungover and in need of a champagne brunch. I wouldn't say it was anything spectacular to rave about, but I did leave full and satisfied.

For the past 28 or 29 years (depending on who you ask), my family has met just about every week for the big "family breakfast" at some spot or another, but the general consensus is that this is our favorite breakfast spot. Formerly known as "Lido Diner," the name has recently changed, but the old-timey spirit, greasy spoon fare, friendly wait staff and plethora of old, new, bed headed, surfer, and yuppy regulars remain the same. Although the "super spuds" are where it's at if you're looking for deliciousness without minding your arteries or your figure, the omelets are also quite good. I tried the granola this morning, which was a bit too heavy for me. It seemed as though it may be been burned and dusted with cocoa powder, which was palatable for the first couple bites, but finishing an entire heaping bowl was impossible. I will say though, that this was the only meal that I have ever had here that was sub par. If you really want to feel like you have traveled back in time, grab your fedora or poodle skirt, as is also a great place to come for a casual date night before or after seeing a movie at the adorable Lido Theater.

Went here last night with a group of friends for my buddy's birthday. Not way overpriced, which was nice to see in that part of newport. Overall, two stars. There were parts of the meal that were better, but not worth an additional star. Like the explaination says, "Meh. I've experienced better." I had the Ole burger with onion rings and a vanilla malt. The burger was decent, cooked how I ordered it. The onion rings were the best part of the meal, they were pretty good. They have good fries, too. Vanilla malt I could have gone without, it was nothing special, and certainly not worth the fat and calories. In 'n Out has better shakes. Service was terrible. The restaurant was mostly empty, yet our server never came back to check on us. A different server came to refill waters once, but that was it. I won't be back again, soon, unless someone once again is having a b-day.

I hate this place. For a long time I've been skeptically avoiding other Woody's because the food is meh, I ended up here by accident because I remembered there was a diner here and didn't realize it was a Woody's. I really wanted to have a nice breakfast with my husband, I tried SO HARD but I hated it and so did he. Everything sucked, I'm not cheap but I feel ripped off when I'm served such crappy food at normal price. Coffee: sucked Fruit salad: worse than Denny's Biscuit with gravy: Frozen biscuit with bland sauce and bacon bits instead of sausage = GROSS! Pork chop: barely edible, so chewy Eggs: ordered over medium, got over easy. If it were the only thing that sucked it would be forgivable. Cottage cheese: that comes from a container so you can't mess it up right? Wrong. If you put cottage cheese in a damp bowl it comes out watery. Yuck again. I sincerely hope if this is a franchise they cancel the deal and rework the menu, if it is corporate owned please sell it to someone who will put a NICE diner here. It probably won't happen because of the never-ending stream of unsuspecting tourists, which is why I'm voicing disdain here: STAY AWAY until it reopens as something decent!

Everything on the menu is awesome. They have the best burgers and beer batter fries you can find. Pot roast meal is very tasty. The price is good and the service is wonderful. Buff Danny is da man! But of course, the rest of the staff is great too

Food.. Mediocre. Service.. Horrible! Ambiance.. Alright. My wife and I visited this Establishment for Sunday brunch. Although many of the reviews here didn't give the restaurant great reviews, they were one of the few restaurants still open for brunch after 1 PM. So we decided to try it out. Upon our arrival, we were seated in the outside patio area. It was a cheap "Cafe" type seating arrangement, with a decent view of the Newport harbor ( Only saving grace). The bus boy was quick to bring us a few muffins, which were actually pretty tasty, but I needed to get up and ask another server for our waitress after sitting there for approximately 15 minutes with no notice. Our female waitress shortly arrived at our table and literally asked "What do you want"? That was the only thing spoken to us, seriously! My wife ordered the eggs Benedict with the bottomless mimosa and after feeling a little shock and wanting to leave quickly, I only ordered coffee with milk and sugar and a water. Our waitress brought out our mimosa and my coffee minus the milk and sugar. I politely asked the waitress for milk and sugar and she gave me the "Really" look and turned and walked away. My milk never arrived and I needed to get up from my table and borrow a sugar caddy from a neighboring table. Note.. The waitress walked by our table 3 times prior to me retrieving my own sugar. Our food was brought out in a timely manner, and presentation and taste were decent. (Only reason for an extra star). In all honesty, IHOP has better eggs Benedict, but the item here is alright and safe to order. Our waitress never attempted to even ask us if everything came out ok or if we needed anything as she walked past our table over half a dozen times. I was forced again to get up and borrow ketchup and Tabasco from a neighboring table. Halfway through the meal, I flagged down a bus boy who got me a glass of water and refilled my coffee. He was unable to refill my wifes mimosa due to the alcohol. I asked the waitress at the table next to us who was refilling their mimosas if she could refill my wifes and her response was, "Wait, I have to fill my tables first". We waited and as she finished her table, she walked away with a half full bottle of champagne left. She never helped us. So needless to say, my wifes "Bottomless "mimosa was never filled and the only time we saw our waitress again was when she dropped our check. In all fairness, the restaurant was semi busy and being in the service industry myself, I understand, but just a few kind words to your guest explaining your situation can make a world of a difference. Another fine example of why you should treat each guest as if they were you best! This establishment has great potential to be such an awesome place, but definitely needs a makeover and staff training!

There I was, ready to leave the area when my nose got a whiff of what they were making. My friend and I made our own crosswalk and scampered over to this place. Of course we ordered way too much but if you're gonna enjoy your food you've gotten get the homemade onion rings and the Rice Krispies Shake! Yummy! Burp!

Very disappointed in Woody's, and I didn't even eat there. I went in hoping to get a slice of pie to go, and had to wait three minutes before someone came up to the front. I know it was busy, but there is no excuse for that. No one came up and said we'll get to you soon, or anything. There was a man behind me also waiting, and as I started talking to the server (when someone finally showed up), the man also started talking and the server sat him first, even though I entered the restaurant first. That was quite upsetting, and poor customer service. The server finally came back to the front and I said that I wanted to order a pie to go, and he said that I had to go to the bar/eat in counter, but that they were very busy. After waiting for 30 seconds, I decided to leave since clearly they did not want my business. I can't even rate the food since I didn't eat there, but I won't go back on principal now.

I literally work across the street from this place. I like that it's kind of like an old-fashioned Denny's sort of feel to go with it. I've only been here for lunch a few times but every single time, I've gotten a good service. Quick, reasonable prices for a diner in Newport, and pretty good consistent taste. The beer-battered fries are absolutely delicious and add that with ranch and you're in diner heaven. It looks like breakfast seems to be pretty good and popular here but I would recommend stopping by for lunch if you're in the area or looking for a quick sit-down place to go to before you head to the beach. The sandwiches are good (I recommend the chicken teriyaki) and as long as your expectations aren't too high, you won't be disappointed. Bonus- check out the Regency Lido Theater right next to it that plays some awesome independent films.

This place is definitely diner food. I got the special which was a fish Tilapia with wild rice and vegetables also came with soup or salad and I got the clam chowder. I wouldn't get that again. It was very salty more than most diner food. Probably because the average age in there was 65 and the older you get the more salt you need on your food for taste. I have been there before for breakfast and have always enjoy my food. As I looked around most people had breakfast food in front of them even though it was 6:30 pm. If you go for dinner get the breakfast .

Took my 12-year old son here the other day for a spring-break father-son breakfast. Its close to home and office so from that standpoint, it's a no-brainer. I mean, who could screw up bacon and eggs? Well, neither of us ordered bacon and eggs, but we did order the "special" omelette, which was quite good. For sides, I opted for tomatoes and my son opted for "fresh" fruit. When our plates came my tomatoes looked like they had been sitting out for hours, and muy son's fruit looked pitiful. Not wanting to ruin his experience, I politely asked to replace the tomatoes with home fries, which were really good. So my beef is this: Why would anyone send out something that looked SO BAD? its such an easy thing, why not get it right? The cook failed when he put it on the plate. The waitress failed when she put the plate on my table. She should have said something. Its the little things that separate good from great. I hope Woody's doesn't rely on their great location and fall asleep on the food.

Came during lunch on a Thursday. The place wasn't too busy. The waitress was nice and refilled all our drinks. Our food came out quickly. But that's where the good stops. The tuna-avocado melt lunch combo was yuck. It had one piece of brown avocado, and tuna straight out of a can, with no additional seasoning. I had to add salt, pepper, and hot sauce. The onion rings were so over-fried, they were dark brown and truly difficult to eat. It tasted like they had been fried twice. Once in the morning, and once again to reheat. Disgusting. My friend ordered a Cobb salad, which made him sick later in the afternoon. Food here isn't fresh, and tastes bad. Avoid.

bottomless brunch - 3.5 never been totally impressed with the brunch selections or what I've ordered for brunch but love that bottomless already comes with your order! not a fan of the lobster omlet. *best part - the muffins are amazing... 5 stars happy hour - 4 stars great selections, great prices, great ahi stack buff bites not too impressed nighttime - crowded, dj, lines, outdoor area has great view.

The service is great at this restaurant and it has a cool old style diner atmosphere. I have only been here for breakfast so far and I ordered the Woody's Omelet. The omelet was ok and the coffee didn't taste too good. I'll have to give this place another shot in the future.

My employer recently relocated near this restaurant, so I stopped in for a grilled chicken Caesar salad to go. The salad was tasty, and I enjoyed it. I'd have to say it was a bit pricy for what I got. It should cost one-third less or they should increase the portion size. Good food though.

I'm a regular here. The food is everything you'd expect from a breakfast/lunch diner and the customer service is great. If you plan on getting breakfast here on a Sunday, expect to wait if you get here after ten, it gets really packed. All in all, a great little establishment with friendly staffers.

Conveniently located near Lido theatre and the Lido Marina Village this place has such potential. The food is acceptable and I think their breakfasts are the best of the menu. Sandwiches are served as stated on the menu, but there isn't anything exceptional about the food. Its fresh and their menu offers a broad selection. I like their Blackened chicken spring salad, the malibu chicken sandwich and their breakfasts the best. Their shakes are pretty darn good. Service is always good- attentive staff anxious to be sure they got it right for you. I wish they'd improve the dessert selections. When you enter you see a very tired glass case full of slabs of crust and liquid fruit covered in plastic. Not very appetizing. Why not use this case to feature something more appetizing? Anyway, its a good place to stop for a quick meal. Prices are in line for the area. Portion sizes are moderate (not huge).

I am really surprised by the bad reviews. Glad I didnt look at them before I went because I had a good experience! We came in for breakfast and all around it was great. The food was good, the coffee was good and the service was good. It wasnt gourmet, but we wanted a simple breakfast. Its a good place for kids too. In fact, I know I will be back.

Once a month, fourth Saturday of the month, our Porsche Club of America has a gathering at Woody's. We started this tradition about a year ago and the is one of our favorites. We average close to 50 people for breakfast and Cesar and his crew take good care of us. We started by having about 20 people and all came in at one time and sort of inundated the place. Cesar has worked with us and now they are extremely efficient in serving our "large" group and still taking care of the other customers. Food wise, I have never been disappointed and I usually eat the chicken fried steak, one of my favorites. From the large group I hear no complaints, and feel if there was a complaint, Woody's would listen and try and see it didn't happen again.

A very solid 3 stars! Came here for a quick snack to tide us over as we waited to board one of the Electra cruise ships for a wedding reception. With 1.5 hours to spare, the four of us girls split the 9.99 sampler appetizer platter and a large side of fries. Everything was fried to golden perfection! The sampler came with 3 large onion rings, two chicken tenders, 3 quesadilla pieces, and 3 fried zucchini slices. Came with pico de gallo and ranch dressing. It was probably the best ranch dressing I have ever had. My girlfriends agreed. The waiter said they made the dressing in house. I can't speak for the other food items or service during busy hours (as we were there when it was pretty slow), but I can say that it was a nice afternoon with the girls.

After a day of unsuccessful shopping my bubby and I decided we wanted to sit down and have a good ol' fashioned American diner. We drove up and down new ports docks and beach and decided Woody's Diner was the best choice. We found parking with no problem and walked to Woody's. When we walked in we were greeted by a nice case of cheesecake and what looked like berry cobbler. We were told we could sit anywhere so we picked the best booth and waited. Might I add they do have a bar seating area that is very retro. We ordered something to drink that we were both un familiar with. I ordered a strawberry coke and he ordered a chocolate coke. The chocolate coke was DELICIOUS. I like my sodas not very fizzy, almost flat, so its drinkable, and the chocolate in the coke made the soda perfect to drink. The strawberry coke didn't have nearly as much strawberry flavor as the chocolate had chocolate. I ordered the fish and chips with their new beer battered fries. He ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and fries. The fries were ridiculous, i could eat a whole plate of them for dinner, there was no need for the fish. Speaking of the fish...My fish was more like fish sticks. The fish was mushy and fish stick like. (See picture) My bubby LOVED his sandwich and shake. He was very pleased with the meal. We both left VERY full and although the fish was less then expected the fries filled that void just fine =) I would stop in this diner again if we happen to be in the area, i would just go for something other then the fish and chips. =)

Okay so there are many restaurants to go to here in the Newport Area to go to for breakfast quality varies and price very varies! Woodys (wich I thought was called the Lido Cafe) is a great option for good prices and a good meal. I have only been for breakfast and Woodys has made its way into the regular rotation. I like a place that is crowded and busy yet still provides great service. I personally like the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. They serve that probably not so good for you canned Corned Beef Hash from my youth that is diced very small Yumm! If you need a quick in and out breakfast than this is the place for you. Local Tip: Park at the Vons and walk over. See you there on Saturdays!

I had dinner with my boyfriend and his folks tonight at Woody's and I'm very pleased with our meals. I had a turkey burger- not some wimpy dry little patty, a nice juicy, meaty patty. I substituted the regular beef patty for turkey but the actual menu item is called Spicy Pablano burger and the pepper slices were substantial as well...not some little pepper confetti. My boyfriend had the bacon avocado burger and he was very pleased. His father had the steak sandwich and it was very delicious. Overall, a great spur of the moment dining option. I can't wait to go back and try more breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Also, I ordered sauteed veggies instead of French fries and asked for a whole wheat bun and it was no biggy at all!

The best thing about Woody's is the atmosphere. Very retro and classic American diner style. We were seated immediately in a nice corner booth with a view of via lido street. Our waitress was really nice and came back several times throughout our meal to refill water, check on us, etc. The menu was really extensive (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and I can't wait to go back to try something new. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich with the beer fries, which were amazing. Even if you go for breakfast try and order the beer fries, they were so good! My friend ordered the french dip sandwich with a side of massive onion rings and loved it! Actually, the best thing about Woody's may be the beer fries. So good!

Ive been here a few times with my girl. The food is good dinner food, but nothing is outstanding. At least nothing that I have had. The prices are decent for the amount of food you get. I like the breakfast special: 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 sausage or bacon strips all for $5 bucks ($7 on the weekends) We usually go there when her parents come to visit because its a good, family friendly place to go with enough Americana food to satisfy most anyone.

A decent place to grab breakfast in Newport, and they serve excellent pancakes. Environment is a tad boring and the location is a little remote, but this is a far superior dining experience to the likes of iHOP and Denny's that line the main roads of Orange County.

Wow, this is my new favorite spot for breakfast.... SUPER SPUD!!! Since other yelpers seem to agree that this place doesn't do right with dinner...I'm going to assume that this place is a breakfast joint, or at least their specialty is breakfast, as it usually is for most diner. I don't think I would push pass lunch food, or dare to order anything not "diner-ish". We were fishing in the area early morning and randomly spotted this place on the way home. I wasn't really that hungry, but I went with it anyways (fiance was hungry).... We went in and sat our selves and 2 minutes later the waitress comes with ice cold water and 2 menus. (Side note: With CA's drought, it's against the law for restaurants to give out water unless customer order water.) My initial thought seeing the price were "Gesh, omelet are $9-$10 bucks". So I tried to find something more reasonable (not super hungry to begin with)...and I wanted to try something that was different...or a possible specialty of theirs. So I picked something that was one of the cheapest and different on the menu....hence SUPER SPUD!!! The 2 eggs and super spud and toast $6.99: Eggs over medium came just perfectly cooked. Super spud (HIGHLIGHT) crunchy and crispy hash brown smothered with delicious Ooey Gooey orange-y and white cheese. That was then sprinkled with an amazing amount of fresh sliced green onion and crispy, salty bacon bits. Topped with a nice half of freshly sliced green and creamy avocado. The finishing touch, white creamy dollop of sour cream. Oh, the toast, I always request "dry (no butter) wheat". The bread was a little generic (not really wheat..just brown white bread), but the texture of the bread was just right. The warm toast had nice thin crunch and center with the soft yummy stuff...since they didn't have orange marmalade (I didn't bother requesting after seeing food...I wanted to grub) I settled with pre-packaged Knott's honey (strawberry, grape and honey in dispenser on table)...yum. I usually just have one slice of bread (portion control), but the texture was so good I finished both. My first assumption b4 the food, about the price was "wow, this food probably cost a lot because of location and decor." But at the very first sight of my "delicious and not so nutritious food" I totally understood the price. The amount of food and the quality of food ....the price was just right...I wouldn't mind paying an extra dollar or two. Even when I wasn't hungry...the food was amazing. I don't really consider eggs and potato to be much of a "yum" or something to rat about. This place took it to another level with their "Super spud." I was only going to eat half of my food (portion control), but after a bite of super spud...I couldn't stop. Plus, my fiance had a sample after he was done wit his...we both kept grubing to there was nothing left. He had cornbeef hash with potato (hash brown) and white toast. I had a few bites, but I was too distracted by the "yum-ness" on my plate to think about it. He finished everything. The decor is a little modern 50's nostalgic feel to it. The booth that we sat in had really nice bounce to the cushion..I recommend the booth...nice on fanny.....Over all, the food was the seller...I could have been happy eating out of a hole in the wall. Service was great as well...waitress kept water filled and checked on us twice after food came. For the both of us, two breakfast plates with two waters...around $20...nice!!! Location may be hard to spot though...It's in same complex as the Pavilion market next to a spa behind a Starbucks. Look for the Sailboat looking Pavilion white metal sculpture thingy. Since your eating at Woody's, you get to park in the lot...Pavilion/Woody's/Starbucks/spa/etc...parking lot. The entrance is actually on Newport and Lido Marina village. You need to get on Newport Blvd and then turn at small street light at Lido Marina village. Turn into small street and park in lot on left side. From parking lot, find Starbucks and walk pass Starbucks toward Via Lido street (North). You'll spot the sign...go in and seat yourselves...and have the super spud. They also have banana/blueberry/etc. pancakes...milkshakes....oh man, I can't wait for next fishing trip...hehe!

My friend recommended this place, so we went there for lunch right before I flew back home to San Francisco. I'll say my first impressions were good, the place is clean and well decorated. Well above a Denny's or IHOP. We were told to seat ourselves, which we did. The valley girls sitting next to us were the most entertaining part of the meal. One of them spent a good ten minutes convincing the other girls that she wasn't a slut. Then afterwards went on a 15 minute tirade on how her friend ate one of her Chewy Bars. WTF is a chewy bar? Anyways it took quite a while to get our menus. Our waitress was initially cold and impolite, but she warmed up a bit later. I was trying to get something healthy, so I got the wild rice & chicken salad. It looked promising on the menu, but unfortunately it was horrible. Weird mix of sweet and salty with raisins, grapes, sundried tomatos, green peppers, etc. I picked out the chicken and raisins and left the rest. I would have ordered the chicken breast - but that was on the dinner menu and they don't serve that until 5 pm. On top of everything, the place was freezing inside. I could hear several other tables complaining to the waitress about this - she said that she was cold too, but they weren't able to control the temperature. Makes no sense at all. My experience was meh, so I'm giving two stars. I'm sure the other items on the menu are better, and I'm sure you'll find a happier server. Just make sure you bring a parka, and don't sit next to any Valley Girls - and if you must, for God's sake don't touch their Chewy Bars.

I go to the Lido Diner (a.k.a. Woody's Diner) almost every weekend for breakfast. The service is always fast and friendly and they are really good about accommodating the modifications I make to my order. The menu is quite large, though I could go for a few more healthy options. But all in all, I would totally recommend this place for breakfast (I've never eaten any other meals here because it seemed a bit pricey). They make a really good shake too though they are so thick you might hurt your face if you try to drink it through a straw. I also like sitting at the counter. It makes me feel like less of a freak when I eat here alone. They always have a newspaper laying around too so I don't have to stare at the wall.

Love the deco design scheme they have going, I really do. One side of the dining room has a nice view of the old theater and the rest still has a nice atmosphere. But the food is way overpriced and pretty bland to boot. There are so many great places to go on the peninsula- avoid Woody's!

Get yourself the super-spuds! it is amazing!!! I go here frequently on sundays after church with my buddies and know the people very well. I love their service because once they know and see you, they make some funny jokes. Its one of the few places I like to eat at on sundays. we always eat at the bar so service is normally a lot better... they just look over the bar to see if you need anything. I like sitting there mainly because I just like to watch what they do! Super amazing place with a very chill group of workers.

What a great diner. I love all the paraphernalia all over the walls. Really feels like a traditional old-school 50's type of place. All the food I saw people ordering looked super tasty. I had the tuna melt which was very good. The fries were yummy and crunchy too. Just good diner fair. A major negative though is that they only offer pepsi products... not a fan. Definitely recommend on all other accounts though!

I really like this place. I used to live on Lido so I would walk down all the time. The fish and chips are great. They also have good salads and burgers. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is b/c they serve Pepsi. I am more of a coke guy.

WORST customer service EVER! Negative star if it was possible. If you want to be treated like a customer, not a beggar, then dont come here. -only one guy running around for valet service. Gotta wait to get the car parked and wait some more to get the car back. -small bar on the inside and out. The outside bar isn't even a bar, but a table with a few drinks. -Inside bar fits a handful of bodies, and the drink are so watered down, that's if u can get the bartenders attention. -Tiny little dance floor with a few "disco" lights. -security guards are A$$holes. They got rough with a couple of my GIRL friends, GIRLS!! What "men" guards would lay a hand on a girl? -one of the bartenders dare to ask for more tips, all she did was pour a couple drinks for us. I said "more" tips because we already gave her a tip. She said "it's the policy here", so I'm guessing it's the "policy" that we have to good tips for shitty service. Will never EVER come back.

Served our breakfast purpose but service was a bit slow and felt kinda like a Denny's in Newport. Would give 3 1/2 stars if Yelp allowed but can't say I'm a fan. Not bad, not memorable either.

Excellent breakfast spot. Very good service and great food! Excellent and courteous service and a reasonable price to boot!

On a Saturday at 12:00 pm, we were the only people under 50 in the entire place...except for the staff. Just couple after couple of old folks. Speaking of old... the desserts are wrapped in saran wrap in the case by the front door. That means that they don't make it fresh everyday. No too into that!

I volunteer at the Newport Beach Farmer's Market across the street and was famished by 2pm today. The diner looked like a good option for lunch today. Sat in the outside area for a bit, but thought it was weird no one else was out there on such a sunny September day (the bf says it's cuz the californians take nice days for grated - we don't because we're from cold weather locations).. We quickly figured out why no one sat outside: there were flies a-buzzin'. Moved back inside, the waitress was extremely nice about it, and ordered. The food is pretty good. I had the BLTA (BLT + avocado, for the newbs) with onion rings... ($8.95) They are LEGIT onion rings, not the wimpy kind that's only all batter, no onion. I'm talking about thick-cut, onion rings with crispy, seasoned batter. The beer battered fries that the bf had were super delicious - crunchy and slightly chewy, perfectly salted. I'd give the place 4 stars if the al fresco dining area was a bit more diner-friendly.

Been here like 5 or 6 times for dinner. I'm a sucker for breakfast served all day and they got it here. Lots of good omelet combinations and egg specialties. Good Breakfast Burritos. The place is totally casual and it's fun to watch some of the locals still trying to "Newport it UP", like it's not just a diner! Funny! I'd call this place down right cheap given the location. A Diner with a modern edge. I like it.

While I've eaten here a hundred times and generally like it today's experience left me with a bitter taste in my mouth (if you'll pardon the pun). I've never written a review before so that should say something in and of itself. The soup was cold and the waitress even colder. She is young and most likely inexperienced but the rudeness was overwhelming. After she dropped our food off and ran (no, "enjoy the meal") she came back once but then never brought us a check. I must have made her mad when I had to make eye contact with her and smile (?) "can I please have the check?" , she picked up the check, dropped it back off and not a thank you to be had. I can't remember when a waitress left the check for me to fill in her tip and not say thank you. I won't writer her name and totally throw her under the bus but I hope they talk to their staff and remind them the patrons are what keep them in business.

I hate when people are super negative on Yelp because I usually just ignore them and peg them as being over cynical. However, for you Woody's I must. Came in here one random Monday evening quite hungry, noticed it was not busy...so figured service would be quick and my belly would be satisfied. We walked through the door, was not greeted by one person. Had to stand for a couple minutes while the server/hostess finished up her party plans with the line cook. We were then told to just sit wherever. This is basically how the whole meal went, I won't bore you with the details but the service was terrible, food was overpriced for the the quality.

I ordered a Swiss mushroom cheeseburger and my wife ordered a panini. The hamburger was just outstanding, as was the panini. And the service was superb.

The old lady and I had lunch here last Saturday and it was awesome. Our server (young, black haired dude) was super friendly and kept my girlfriends coffee cup full which I appreciated because the more coffee she has the less grumpy she is. I had a hot dog with beer-battered fries and the lady had some kind of avocado omelet thing that she said was great. Truth be told, probably about half the reason why I liked this place so much is because I hadn't eaten meat in about three months (dumb bet I made with my brother) and that hot dog was my first introduction back to the world of meat and it was amaaazzziiiiiiing. Time stood still while I ate it. God, I love hot dogs.

My girlfriend and I had Sunday breakfast at Woody's yesterday. I've eaten there several times over the years. It's always a nice spot if you don't want to wait for the tourist traps by the Newport Pier or before a movie at Lido Theater. Solid place for omelets and burgers. The home fries are excellent. They also have an underrated turkey dinner. Never had it myself but my Dad likes it and they use real hand-carved white meat. Stick to the basics and you'll be fine at Woody's.

It's all about the peanut butter shake!! Only reason it's not 5 stars is the price

Came here early August for brunch because we were in the area. I put money in the meter for 1 hour - we were a small group 2 adults and 1 child and the place was NOT terribly busy as it was overcast this morning so all of the beach goers were not out yet. We ordered our food at a decent amount of time and after an hour I had to put MORE money in our meter and our food had NOT COME OUT YET. I finally also had to ask for something to entertain my 4 year old. They had kids menu's but they never gave us one when we sat down. Our food finally came out and the manager did not apologize nor did they comp anything on the menu. Note this entire time a manager never came to our table. The server was apologetic but there was clearly something wrong with this place. We saw her along with other servers waiting around for their food to come out. On a Sunday morning, there SHOULD NOT be only 2 people in the kitchen working when you are in a busy area of Newport Beach and this is a full restaurant NOT a diner or a whole in the wall place! Never coming here again!

This diner is very mediocre. The first thing that I noticed when walking into the store was the pie display at the entrance with melted pies.... Why would you leave old, gross looking pies at the very front entrance of your shop for everyone to see? I was here with a party of 8 and it took a really really long time to receive our food (Albeit, we were 4 girls and 4 huge guys so we had ordered more than 8 dishes). My friend and i had requested sour cream on the side for our food but they forgot. I had the breakfast burrito which was pretty good, but I thought they used too much beans as a filler. My friend ordered the waffle and was really looking forward to it, but was disappointed at how bland and below average it was. The shop has a cute small town feel to it, but I won't be returning unless I have to.

Nothing to write home about, but not really complaining either... Exactly what you'd expect from a diner except w better service! Atmosphere 4 Service 5 Food 3 Quality 3 Wouldn't go out of your way to visit but if you're in the area and craving an omelet or pastrami on rye this might be the spot for you! Easy parking, hot spot for Seniors, & Milk shakes, what's not to love?!?

Woody's Diner? More like 'would not come back unless I had to." What's the point of going somewhere that is barely one cut above IHOP? Nothing on the menu seemed special or out of the ordinary. I ordered a southwestern skillet which had chicken, peppers, tomatoes, and onions. It was rather bland so I had to use way too much tobasco to compensate. Service was average. The server forgot who ordered what. Also, didn't separate our bill when we requested. While my experience here wasn't terrible, I'm not going to wait just for average-ish food and service. There are better breakfast options in the area...

We went in for some drinks and bread pudding and are def. going to come back. They have only wine and beer but they make cocktails with a low percentage wanna be vodka that is tasty. The bread pudding was so delicious. The service was great.

Really cute and clean diner. We had a group of 20 and they really took care of us. Half were kids. This is a very kid friendly place. The food was yummy and the staff was great. We will be back again. Our favorites are the home made chicken pot pie and the root beer float.

We eat at a Woody's quite a bit but today was strike 2! The waitstaff are pleasant and food good. My biggest complaint is Management. Having owned a restaurant before I know you NEVER form a line with open tables ! Another no no, too many tables per server. 4 to 5 max in a servers section. Numerous times we have seen their servers trying to accommodate up to 10 tables which is physically impossible to properly do! Wake up Woody's ! You're going to loose regulars !

Not good. Barely passable. Had to send dirty appetizer side plates back 3x...you would think they would return with a clean plate the first time. Pickles were smashed. French dip was limp and came with less than a table spoon of horseradish sauce. Artichokes came with inner pith still intact. I'll never be back.

I love this place. I highly recommend the super spuds with eggs or the ray san for breakfest. I used to come here all the time. It is an actual diner rather than a parody of a diner which is much more common nowadays.

I get take out from Woody's Diner when I have money to burn and I've forgotten my lunch. The staff is generally friendly and I have no complaints about the establishment as a whole. It's nice having a little diner in the area even if it doesn't stay open too late. I like to get the grilled cheese and fries. It used to be $6 but they raised the prices to $10 just because they added a new cheese and gave it a new name. This made me sad but what can I do. It's mostly populated by an older crowd but that doesn't matter much to me.

Such a cute place! I love the old time diner feel to it. the menu has a lot of variety. I like the Woodys Benedict. It has really good flavor. It can get crowded on the weekend so if you want breakfast go before 10! The staff is really friendly, we always get this younger pretty brunette and she is very attentive!

I enjoyed the beer battered fries and onion ring but would have to say they need to change their buffalo wings because it was one of the worst I've tried. It was like they stated off with frozen wings, dipped it in batter and flash fried it before drenching it in commercial hot wing sauce. By the time it was served it was soggy and not appetizing at all. Stick to burgers and fries and you'll be ok. Decor and service was pleasant.

I brought a group of 10 in for dinner, and had a fun time, with great service. The food was very good. From someone who is used to NJ/NY diners, this is as good as it gets for CA. We were really impressed and it was perfect for a quick dinner before going to Lido Live to see the Bee Gees with a menu that had just about everything. Definitely going back for the next Lido event first. Thanks for your great service and getting us out in the time we needed to go. Adrian our server couldn't have been better!!!

I came here the other day with my family because my dad saw that they sold pizza. However, the pizza is only offered on the kids menu :(. My parents ordered sandwiches, brother ordered burger and fries, little sis got the pizza, and I got the jambalaya. My parents ordered strawberry lemonades, baby sis got a coke, and the waiter was kind enough to split an oreo milkshake into two for my brother and I. First of all, the service was OUTSTANDING! Our waiter was so nice and friendly, he really made our visit a pleasure. He was very informative and very kind. My parents loved their strawberry lemonades, they were a little too sour for my liking. The milkshake was really good and I'm so glad the waiter split it for us :) My parents sandwiches were okay, nothing special. My little brother (ordered off the kids menu) got a burger which was HUGE for a kids menu item. He let me have a bite of it and it was okay, tasted like any other burger. The fries were not good though, very salty and hard to chew. My little sister's pizza was good though. OMG, the Jambalaya was the best I have ever had in my life! It was SO GOOD. The seasoning was perfect on the rice & meant, the veggies were cooked perfectly, the garlic bread was not overcooked and it was crispy and delicious, the chicken and shrimp were so tender nom nom nom. Had I not gotten the jambalaya I probably would never return to this place but it was soo good I NEED to go back! :)

This is one of our favorite spots to grab some good food. Great atomosphere, good service and best of all the food is super yummy! The waiters are always courteous and we never feel rushed even though its a small diner. The patty melts are absolutely scrumptious and after trying about 4 breakfast dishes. I have no complaints!

Middle of the road food here. With tons of breakfast spots on the penninsula, many of them with beer, retractable roofs, and sporting events, there is a lot of competition. We waited about 35 minutes for our food to come out, and it wasn't anything to write home about. I had the french toast (with fresh blueberries for $2) which was pretty good. At least something was fresh, because the french toast was not. Was hoping it would be crunchy before I added syrup to it, but it seemed to already be soggy. Blah. No powered sugar, no decadence. Other than it being close to my domicile, there is not too much to love about this place. Slow service, average food, and a waitress who was polite, but paid us little attention. 2.5 stars

In an effort to mix up my usual Sunday morning routine we decided to give this place a whirl... Strangely enough I just took photos of this place late at night about a month ago. It has some really cool neon lights and the building has some interesting architecture. There was only about a 5min wait and every table was full. The average age base of the customers was quite high, over 65.... Our waitress was a cute, young girl who was very nice. The menu had the usual fare, lots of omelets, eggs, bacon, pancakes etc....thr menu lacked any creativity whatsoever. I got a bacon, jack cheese and avocado omelet, was okay I guess. My girlfriend wanted Eggs Benedict but somehow their Benedict lacks hollandaise sauce?! I guess they make theirs with white gravy, which in turn makes it NOT eggs benedict but rather SOS (shit on a shingle). Just saying.... My hashbrowns were a bit undercooked.... All and all....The whole experience was a bit disappointing. someone else said it right....its like dennys

Love this place. I grew up in Newport and find lots of nostalgia every time I eat here. Food is great. The waiting staff is pleasant and friendly. Their Cobb salad is the best. And, they know how to cook bacon..

This is an historic dinner in Old Town Newport Beach. I only go here for the breakfast and have to say it is good. The staff is very nice and you get great service as well. The food would be compared to a upscale Denny's or Ihop. They would have gotten better reviews on Yelp if they paid for their service.
